Issue #1: NFL Week 6. Shootout in Atlanta, the Rams as big favorites, and a skip in Tampa

Week 6 Sunday and Monday slate: 5 start/sit calls, 3 prop reads, 1 skip, and what a player prop actually is.

TL;DR

5 start/sit calls

START · QB

Caleb Williams (CHI @ ATL)

This game is tied for the highest total of the 1 p.m. ET window at 51.5, with Chicago a 1.5-point road favorite [2], and the total climbed from its open [3]. CBS Sports' Dave Richards has Williams as a start [4]. Atlanta's QB Michael Penix Jr. is dealing with a rib injury [3], which helps if Chicago can control the script.

START · QB

Matthew Stafford (ARI @ LAR)

The Rams are 12.5-point favorites with a 51.5 total [2]. That implied team total is one of the biggest of the week. CBS lists Stafford as a start [4]. The one risk: a blowout could mean fewer fourth-quarter throws.

START · RB

Bijan Robinson (ATL vs CHI)

He's a must-start per CBS Sports [4], at home in a high-total game (51.5) [2]. Volume backs are rarely benched in shootout environments.

SIT · QB

Trevor Lawrence (JAX vs HOU, London)

The 42.5 total is one of the lower ones on the slate [2], and CBS has Lawrence as a sit [4]. An early London kickoff (9:30 a.m. ET) also means he locks before most news breaks.

SIT · QB

Michael Penix Jr. (ATL vs CHI)

Even in a good game environment, a rib injury flagged by RotoWire [3] plus a CBS sit call [4] is enough for us. Watch Friday's injury designation, and if he's limited, pivot.

PROP READ

Caleb Williams passing yards: lean OVER

Same reasoning as his start: a 51.5 total that rose from the open [2][3]. Line: not captured at publish time. We'll record the consensus line posted Sunday morning in the Monday recap and grade against it. Informational only.

PROP READ

Puka Nacua receiving yards: lean OVER

The Rams carry one of the week's largest implied team totals (LAR −12.5, 51.5 total) [2], and CBS lists Nacua among its starts [4]. The risk is that a big early lead turns this into a run-heavy game. Line: not captured at publish. It will be recorded and graded in the recap.

PROP READ

Bills at Raiders game total: lean OVER 53.5

The total moved six full points, from 47.5 to 53.5, per RotoWire's line-move tracker [3]. That's the biggest total move of the week, and it means the market has been pushed hard toward points. We are siding with the market move here, not fading it [2][3]. Informational only.

1 skip

SKIP

Steelers at Buccaneers: any Tampa Bay passing props

Baker Mayfield's thumb has flipped this line from TB −1.5 to PIT −2.5, and the total has dropped from 44.5 to 39.5 [3]. When the starting QB's status is this uncertain, the honest call is to stay away until it's resolved.

2-minute explainer: What is a player prop?

A player prop is a market on one player's stat line rather than on who wins the game. For example, "Caleb Williams over/under 245.5 passing yards" (an illustrative number, not a real line).

Over/under: the book sets a number, and you pick whether the player finishes above or below it. The .5 means there are no ties.

The price: most props show odds like −110. That means you'd risk $110 to win $100, and that extra $10 is the book's margin. To break even at −110 you need to be right about 52.4% of the time.

Why lines move: injuries, weather, and money all shift numbers. That's why we always print the line we saw and when.

Bottom line: props are fun to follow and good for learning how the market prices players. They're also designed so the house has an edge. 21+, and set a budget if you play.
